Technological innovation

We offer innovative technological solutions that facilitate access to broadband Internet, of quality and at a fair price.

Social and collaborative economy

We are based on an economic model that understands telecommunications networks as a common good. We promote local, collaborative, sustainable, and proximity economy.

Social transformation

We propose a telecommunications management model in which people are agents of transformation and change. We work to connect everyone without discrimination.


The Foundation

The Foundation guifi· net is the non-profit entityand of general interest that was established in 2008 to give legal entity to the project, to promote its principles, and with the intention of coordinating with different actors the open, free, and neutral commons network.i d'interès general que neix el 2008 per donar entitat jurídica al projecte, per fomentar-ne els principis i amb la voluntat d'impulsar coordinadament amb diferents actors la xarxa de comuns oberta, lliure i neutral.

From the Foundation we work to:

Facilitate accessto quality Internet, at a fair price, to all people without discrimination and with the intention of eliminating the digital divide between urban and rural areas.

Promotedeployment projectsof the commons network (fiber optic and/or radio link) throughout the territory.

Foster the technological, social, and economic project of the commons network withtransparency,universal vocationand non-discriminatory.

Coordinate,manageandcollaboratewith all participants promoting the project throughout the territory: users, operators, entities, institutions, volunteers.

Developmentoflocaltelecommunications operators that offer Internet access services.

            • We promote necessary mechanisms for making the Internet accessible to all people without socio-economic, cultural, and territorial discrimination.

            Objectives

            The Foundation guifi· net has the following objectives:

            • Promote and foster the development of open information and communication infrastructure networks, with universal and non-discriminatory vocation.

            • Promote and foster the universal right to communication and information, to the exchange of knowledge, to freedom of expression, and to the public and private exchange of opinions and information through open networks and infrastructures.

            • Promote and foster the right to Internet access, regardless of where one is, helping to develop a society without a digital divide for socio-economic or residency reasons.

            • Promote and foster the right to open technological standards, not subject to patents and discriminatory conditions , such as unnecessary complexity in machinery and software software .

            • Promote advanced research in the field of open networks and infrastructures.

            • Generate collaboration platforms between civil society, the public sector, and the private sector.

            • Establish relationships and collaborations with individuals and entities aligned with the Foundation's objectives, participating in joint projects.

            • Promote the defense of the management of the radioelectric space to achieve regulations that facilitate the right to have open networks, promoting the existence of spaces that do not require licenses, seeking good common management to avoid saturation of unlicensed frequency bands used privately by closed networks.

            • Prepare, edit, publish, and disseminate studies, proposals, and analyses related to the Foundation's purposes and organize courses, seminars, workshops, or dissemination materials of the foundational objectives.
