Fundació guifi·net de ruta per Alacant

The past 9th and 10th of July, the guifi·net Foundation traveled to Alicante, where the company Grup ATTI is promoting a fiber optic extension project of Commons.

In the past days 9 and 10 of July, the guifi·net Foundation had the opportunity to travel to Alicante, where the operating company Grup ATTI is promoting a fiber optic extension project of the Xarxa de Comuns. The project is being carried out in the town of Xàbia and the intention is to enhance the sharing of high-speed fiber optic telecommunications infrastructures in the Marina Alta region through the collaborative guifi·net model.

Ramon Roca and Clara Cusó from the guifi·net Foundation visited the New Technologies Councilor of the Xàbia City Council, Ximó Segarra, where soon the deployment of the guifi.net Common Network will begin thanks to Grup ATTI, who also showed great receptivity to the advantages of a common infrastructure that allows sharing and reducing costs for end users, which helps boost the local economy through the activity of small telecommunications operators and allows municipalities to organize telecommunications deployments in a way that does not duplicate or triplicate existing infrastructures.

The Foundation also had the opportunity to meet with Sergi Ferrús, mayor of Pedreguer, who was already familiar with the guifi·net radio infrastructure project deployed in the municipality. Finally, we were also received by the mayor of Gata de Gorgos, Josep Francesc Signes, and the managers of the municipal company SòlGata, which manages a municipal telecommunications infrastructure.

Both city councils showed openness to collaboration for the construction of shared telecommunications infrastructures and we hope it serves to promote sustainable telecommunications that can provide access to all people in the region.

Overall, we hope that the Common Network will also expand throughout the Marina Alta and beyond.

Defensar l'accés a Internet és necessari, defensar-lo a les zones rurals és imprescindible
Measures such as the imposition of taxes that encourage limited coverage and neglect of rural areas increase inequalities in access to the Internet and the digital divide
