In recent months, communications have been made by the company Goufone, which for years and since its inception has been offering Internet connection service through the Comuns de guifi ·net network, which will no longer provide services via wireless network.
These communications, sometimes accompanied by some discretionary disconnections, have created the feeling that the only option to continue the Internet service is to migrate to fiber, not from Comuns anymore, but from the operator itself.
From the Foundation, we do not share this way of acting, exploiting the common good to later privatize it, and we want to state that we maintain our commitment to the Open, Free, and Neutral Network, also in Osona, whether Wireless or with Fiber Optics, convinced of the importance of Internet access in the territory through neutral infrastructures.
Therefore, from the Foundation, we are taking the necessary actions to ensure continuity of the Comuns Network, such as contacting the company Goufone to agree on the transfer of network maintenance, visiting the locations to understand and document access, the state of conservation, and evaluate how the infrastructure will continue to be maintained.
Visits have also been made to public administrations, to communicate the intention to continue the network and not leave anyone disconnected, offering an alternative service and maintenance, including the identification of other companies that can continue to offer connection services over the Comuns Network to the territory with pleasure.
Finally, in case anyone has difficulty finding a provider, from the Foundation guifi ·net, we will provide resources so that no one is left disconnected. For example, a group of users and administrations from Lluçanès have launched the initiative to renew and continue maintaining the repeaters and offer an aggregated Internet connection service, to which they have been accompanied in the budget, installation, and configuration of the necessary network operations.
